Announcing the Loudoun County Brewery Guide

Loudoun County Brewery Guide

Loudoun County Brewery Guide — Coming Soon!

I have an important announcement. I’m working on my first eBook – a Loudoun County Brewery Guide – and I need your help. It will be about 5-10 pages providing all the information needed at a glance for residents and visitors about the county’s 14 breweries. It will be 100% free for anyone to use and distribute. I hope the guide can help my county and it’s awesome breweries.

Here’s the list of breweries:

  • Adroit Theory Brewing Company
  • Barnhouse Brewery
  • Beltway Brewing Company
  • Corcoran Brewing Company
  • Crooked Run Brewing
  • Dirt Farm Brewing
  • Lost Rhino Brewing Company
  • Leesburg Brewing Company
  • Mad Horse Brewpub
  • Mud Hound Brewing Company
  • Old Ox Brewery
  • Old 690 Brewing Company
  • Sweetwater Tavern
  • The V – Virginia’s Eatery & Brew House
  • Vintage 50 Restaurant & Brew Lounge

This is the list of information I want to gather for each:

  • Address:
  • Telephone:
  • Hours:
  • Website:
  • Email:
  • Twitter:
  • About/History:
  • Signature Brew(s):
  • Tours:
  • Food:
  • Prices:
  • Logo/Company Picture(s):

Here’s where I need your help.  I do not have contacts at nearly half of the breweries above. I will be reaching out via email, phone calls and in person but I’m only one guy. If you have a connection at one, please connect me with them. I want to represent every brewery in the best light possible and use information that only the brewery can provide.

I also need your opinion. What else would you want to know about the breweries? Did I leave a brewery off the list? Leave a comment below or contact me privately.

Lastly, this is my first eBook. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to formatting and publishing it. Any assistance will be much appreciated if you have experience in this realm.

Again, thank you for any help you can provide. I’m hoping to get this guide out by the end of the year. Now on to studying for the Cicerone Certified Beer Server Exam…

TWIB – Missing In Action

This Week in Beer (TWIB) is a feature where I’ll highlight some craft beers I had during this past week mixed with some related (and unrelated) thoughts. Yes, it’s a play on the name of the show This Week in Baseball which I grew up on and loved.

Phew. Life has been flying by at a million miles an hour the past couple of weeks. Fortunately I’ve been having fun along the way and more importantly, have been drinking some good beers.

Inaugural SOB Dinner

Over the weekend I hosted the inaugural Short On Beer Dinner. The crowd consisted of 11 people, including myself. I served Port City Derecho Common, 21st Amendment Bitter American, New Belgium Hoppy Bock, Stone IPA and RJ Rocker’s Son of a Peach. I had everyone rate the beers on different qualities. I’ll tally up the results and posts some awesome pictures next week. My wife slaved over the decorations and dinner. It was a mini crafting sweatshop for the few days leading up to the event. She even etched glasses with Short On Beer on them (she’s a keeper). More on this next week complete with a photo gallery!

**Note — I’d like to host a SOB dinner each season. Contact me if you’re interested in joining in on the fun.**

TWIB – Talking, Studying, Mailing and Drinking

This Week in Beer (TWIB) is a feature where I’ll highlight some craft beers I had during this past week mixed with some related (and unrelated) thoughts. Yes, it’s a play on the name of the show This Week in Baseball which I grew up on and loved.

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted a TWIB but that doesn’t mean craft beer has been quiet. Here are some recent happenings to me, my blog and the beer world.

I’m a Glass Half Full Kinda Guy

I finally got to sit down for a few pints at Glass Half Full Taproom in Ashburn, Virginia. It is a small bar inside the new Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. No movie ticket is required to enter and the bar is well worth going to even if you aren’t planning on seeing a movie. It has about 15-20 barstools and ten or so tables surrounded by a rugged wood decor.  The staff is highly knowledgeable about their beer. They have 32 taps of which most rotate regularly.

TWIB – Dead Presidents, Wedding Drinks and Delicious Beer

This Week in Beer (TWIB) is a feature where I’ll highlight some craft beers I had during this past week mixed with some related (and unrelated) thoughts. Yes, it’s a play on the name of the show This Week in Baseball which I grew up on and loved.

It is wedding season. Still. I attended my second wedding in less than a month (Here’s a recap of the first wedding). This time I went north to Philadelphia. Traveling, especially out of state, gives you a chance to really branch out when it comes to beer choices.

I wandered the streets of Philly and ended up where?

What do I love most about weddings? People from all around gather to celebrate the love of a common family member or friend. Meaning that if you don’t know someone attending the wedding, you have a better chance of getting along with him or her than a random person. I met another bridemaid’s significant other and hit it off with him. We had the whole day to ourselves while our ladies were doing whatever bridemaids do the day of the wedding so we hit the streets of Philly in search of cheesesteaks and beer. Continue reading

TWIB – Pilsners, Habaneros and Beer Fiction

This Week in Beer (TWIB) is a feature where I’ll highlight some craft beers I had during this past week mixed with some related (and unrelated) thoughts. Yes, it’s a play on the name of the show This Week in Baseball which I grew up on and loved.

Port City Downtown Pilsner

With the warm weather here to stay, I decided to pick up something refreshing. I found a six-pack of Port City’s limited release Downtown Pilsner at the Wine’ing Butcher and scooped it up. After a long week and a great dinner I realized I had downed four of them in succession. It has a crisp flavor made from 100% Pilsner malt and 100% Saaz hops and is highly sessionable at 4.8% ABV. Pick this beer up while it lasts.

Hardywood Chocolate Heat

Hardywood is a newer brewery in Richmond, Virginia. My wonderful wife grabbed their Chocolate Heat and Bourbon Sidamo for me when she there recently. Chocolate Heat is a Double Chocolate Milk Stout that is brewed with local chile peppers (including habanero peppers!!).

I’ve had a few “peppered” beers before and would rank this one pretty high on the list. The heat was apparent but didn’t completely overtake the chocolatey-maltiness. I can’t wait to open the Bourbon Sidamo…
