I’ve alluded to this in the past and have had this sitting in my drafts for weeks. Last weekend I was having a few beers (some really good beers) at a friend’s house and he said he wanted to drink them all but it wouldn’t be the same if he didn’t get to share them with someone. That’s when I decided it’s time to officially start Beer Missions.
What is a Beer Mission?
A Beer Mission is something you can do when maybe beer gets a little boring. Yes, I said it. BORING! Beer will never be boring when it comes to taste. But besides the taste of beer there is something equally as important…the experience. The experience can get boring. You cannot drink the same beer(s) every night from your couch. You have to mix it up! That’s where Beer Missions come in.
Beer Missions will make you go out of your comfort zone and explore different aspects of the experience associated with beer.
I have a whole bunch of Beer Missions lined up for you but I’d love to hear some of your ideas in the comments section below.
Beer Mission #1
Give a friend a beer they’ve never drank before
Your first Beer Mission is an easy one. Give a friend a beer they have never drank before.
You get to experience the beer via the gift of giving through your friend. Hopefully he or she enjoys the beer and is grateful but who knows! It’s all about the experience and we can’t predict what will happen.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it
Once you complete your first Beer Mission you have to do two things.
First, report back what happened to you, right here in the comments section or on the follow-up post about my experience.
Second, share this post with someone else! Tweet it, email it, print it out and hand it someone. The more people that do Beer Missions the more fun it will be for all.
So what are you waiting for? Go get your friend a beer!
Excellent idea sir and luckily already the plans for my evening!
Also, this needs to be a session! I’d love to see what kind of Beer Missions other bloggers would come up with.
Thanks! This is by far the easiest one. I can’t wait for Beer Mission #8 (just throwing out a number): Get a stranger to buy you a beer without asking or buying one for them.
Stranger uh… that is a toughy. How about a brewer? I can get that taken care of tomorrow night, hell it happened last night 🙂
Today we had all 3 founders together for a couple group tastings. Each of us tried a beer that was completely new to all of us at the same time. Twice.
(Maybe we can influence a few more…)
We tried Yards Rye – pushing towards an IPA in bitterness, while maintaining a dry malt characteristic.
And Terrapin Mosaic – a hoppy rye ale balanced by the sweetness of darker caramel malts.
Sounds like good times. Thanks for sharing! Got another mission for you this week…

Short On Beer is working on a list of “Beer Missions.” I’ve already set out to accomplish Beer Mission #1, and it seems like fun. I plan to play along and encourage everyone else to join in! I would love to get a big group together for Beer Mission #2!
